Michael S. Ryoo

Founder & CTO (

Michael is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at Indiana University. He studies computer vision and machine learning algorithms, particularly focusing on understanding and recognition of human activities/events in videos. He is also known for their application to wearable cameras and robots, which was recognized with ICRA best vision paper award in 2016. He was a research technologist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) before founding EgoVid.

Hyun Jong Yang

Founder & CEO (

Hyun Jong Yang is an assistant professor of Electrical Engineering at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), Korea. He studies signal processing and machine learning algorithms for radar and wireless communications. Before joining EgoVid, he was a research fellow at Stanford University and Korea Institute Ocean Science Technology (KIOST) and a systems design engineer at Broadcom Corporation.

Zhongzheng (Jason) Ren

Machine Learning Researcher (

Jason has been a machine learning researcher at EgoVid since September 2017, developing video anonymization algorithms for privacy-preserving activity recognition. He obtained his Masters degree from UC Davis in 2017. Jason is joining the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) for his PhD starting Fall 2018.

Myoung Un Kim

Adjunct Machine Learning Researcher (

Myoung Un is a graduate school student in UNIST. She has been working with EgoVid for collaborative machine learning research since Aug. 2016. She demonstrated an extreme low resolution face detection technology with EgoVid in IEEE CVPR 2017.

Junghwa Park

Project Administrator (

Junghwa Park is a project administrator, who joined EgoVid May 2018. She has been managing research projects in EgoVid and also researching customer behaviors on privacy preserving machine learning.

Arogyaswami Paulraj

Scientific Advisor

Paulraj is a Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He is a pioneer of MIMO wireless communications. He has won over a dozen awards, notably the Marconi Prize and Fellowship, 2014 and the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell Medal, 2011. In 1999, Paulraj founded Iospan Wireless Inc., acquired in by Intel Corporation in 2003. In 2004, Paulraj co-founded Beceem Communications Inc., acquired by Broadcom Corp. in 2010. During his 30 years in the Indian (Navy) (1961-1991), he founded three national level laboratories in India and headed one of India’s most successful military R&D projects – APSOH sonar.

Yong Jae Lee

Scientific Advisor

Yong Jae is an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at the University of California, Davis. His lab works on computer vision and machine learning research, with a particular focus on recognition algorithms that can learn with minimal human supervision. Yong Jae received his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and was a postdoctoral fellow at Carnegie Mellon University and UC Berkeley.


Kiyoon Kim

Machine Learning Researcher (

Kiyoon studied machine learning algorithms and their implementation at EgoVid since Oct. 2016. He won prizes in Korea Supercomputing Challenge and Korea Olympiad in Informatics. He developed an extreme low resolution activity recognition deep learning algorithm and demonstrated its implementation in IEEE CVPR 2017. He is joining the University of Edinburgh for his MS degree in 2018.
